A native of Pretoria, South Africa, Neil Ryan has been a Member of the PGA of America since 1999.
Neil’s passion for sport started at a young age. Growing up in South Africa, he played various sports, including golf, rugby and cricket. He also represented his country in water polo and badminton.
After relocating to the United States in 1996, he enrolled in the Professional Golfers Training Program. Neil started his teaching career at The Golf Club at Indigo Run on Hilton Head Island, S.C. During his 4 years as lead instructor, he taught golfers of all skill levels. He soon realized that many golfers had various physical limitations, and with the help of his wife who is a Physical Therapist, he was able to teach his students without compromising their backs or artificial joints. This enabled them not only to improve their golf game, but also prevent further injury.
Neil strongly believes that golfers need to feel comfortable in the learning process of the golf swing, and feels that his patience and laid back attitude provides his students the opportunity to relax and have fun while learning.
After accepting the position of Head Golf Professional/General Manager at the Golden Bear Golf Club, Neil continued to be involved with teaching. He was instrumental in creating a weekly clinic for the local Boys’ and Girls’ Club, as he continued with his private lessons. Due to the responsibilities of the day-to- day operations of the club, he found that he was unable to dedicate his time to what he loved most – teaching. Neil has recently become a certified instructor for the Don Trahan Academy of Golf and looks forward to helping all PPGS students achieve their goals.
