Kenny Knox, 3-time PGA Tour Champion
In the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, three-time PGA Tour winner Kenny Knox was known for his outstanding short game skills including his trademark putting stroke – a smooth pendulum motion that was the envy of fellow pros. They wondered how Kenny could play so poorly off the tee, yet make so many cuts. “I knew I was never out of [a tournament],” says Knox, who still holds the tour record for fewest putts in a PGA Tour tournament round, 18. “I owe much of my short game prowess to Seve Ballesteros who graciously shared his amazing short game knowledge with me.”
Some highlights from Kenny’s career include:
• All-American at Florida State • Winner of the 1986 Honda Classic • Winner of the 1987 Hardee’s Classic • Winner of the 1990 Southern Open • More than two dozen Top 10 Finishes on the PGA Tour
Kenny was in contention at the 1991 PGA Championship, but lost to John Daly by six strokes. Daly’s long-hitting style convinced Knox that he needed to tinker with his swing. The move backfired. The change in his mechanics caused him back problems and led to the end of his PGA Tour career. Surge is hopeful that Kenny will convert to the Peak Performance Golf Swing in 2012 and return to compete on The Champions Tour.
