Last week, DJ was talking about slowing down his backswing a little. What he was referring to was his tempo.
Tempo is a personal thing. It's not timing. Timing is getting all the body parts working at the right time in the swing. Tempo is the pace or rhythm you develop in your swing. Some people say something like 'one, two, three, hit' to help keep the tempo of their backswing in check.
It can be influenced by your personality or even someone you're playing with. Maybe the other person is swinging really fast, that is, they have a fast tempo. You might, without knowing it, start to pick it up.
The important thing is to develop and keep the tempo that's right for you, from backswing to impact to a dynamically balanced T-Finish.
