Ninth Lesson - Hitting Down on the Ball

Think about it for a second.  Which way do you want the ball to go, down or up?  My guess is that there is unanimous agreement you want the ball to go up.  Right?

Then WHY does everybody tell you to hit DOWN ON THE BALL?

You’re told to hit down, beat down, or pound down and take deep divots.  In the Surge Swing, we want to hit UP, the direction we want the ball to go.  That’s why I don’t call it a “downswing,” I call it a “forward upswing."

Just semantics?  Hardly.

Here’s the problem when you think you must hit down on the ball.  You hit the ground and it jars your fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders and eventually your back.  Your clubhead, which we want increasing in speed at impact, obviously slows down.

Of course we do swing down when transitioning from the backswing.  In fact your arms, hands and club are coming down with your body, with a free assist from gravity to increase clubhead speed.

But you want them to end UP in the perfect T-Finish.  If you picture UP from the moment of transition, you’ll be thinking (and swinging) UP at impact, acceleration through the ball, gaining speed.  You have momentum on your side.

If you think “down,” you’ll have to “pull up” after impact, which takes more energy (mind and body).  Think “up” and you're deep into the fairway.

The Surge Swing is a simpler, powerful, consistent swing to help you hit the ball (up) more solidly, straight and longer.  I guarantee it.  Read on.
