It's time for Dave Seeman and I to announce the winner of our Facebook contest! Last week, we decided to reward all those who have "liked" The Swing Surgeon on Facebook. We waited for the 1st 1,000 people to like our Facebook page and then we put all the names in a random drawing to see who would receieve a free online golf lesson from yours truly! Click on the video to find out if you're the lucky winner.
Didn't win this time? Don't worry, there will be plenty more giveaways and you could be the next lucky winner!
Keep it vertical,
The Surge!

If Dave doesn't mind, I'll upload it to my YouTube channel.
EDIT: Okay, I put it up. If Dave would rather not have it up there, I'll take it back down. I'm certainly not embarrassed.

My arrows are fine. It's the guy with the bow who's strung a little loose that's the problem. I think my string is worn out!
Big congrats David. GoodÃÂ

Robert,
Echoing Dan's feelings- your swing is looking good.
Very cool lesson from Dave. Looks like he gave you some super feedback. Thanks for sharing. I learned some pointers too as he talked abour your positions.
Helpful thoughts for sure.
What a great prize!
What a great prize! Congratulations Dave. I'm jealous.
Hit a bucket of balls on the
Hit a bucket of balls on the range: first time this season being from Philadelphia. ÃÂ All the last 9 months of Surge's tips were running through my head. ÃÂ Biggest issue is always balance with me: I naturally stay on my toes and sway on the backswing. ÃÂ Then turning the hands over on the UFS. ÃÂ Lots of adjustments today but lots of good shots, too. ÃÂ I hit all clubs and used the last 15 balls to go "driver - 4 utility - 6 iron- 50 yard wedge" and see how consistent I could get. ÃÂ Not sure what I will put on video: I usually hit my driver the worst and I hit a number of good and straight shots - go figure. I am thinking 4 hybrid since I really feel I need a consistent 200 yard straight shot from the fairway more than anything else. I will work to get that to Surge this week. ÃÂ How great is this. Thanks Surge and Dave
Robert,Great swing, thanks
Robert,
Great swing, thanks for sharing the video. I will definitely have to get my video in to Dave as well, once the winter gloves and coat are off and I can swing a little freer.

Thanks Robert, a good set of things approaches to utilize - Dave
Congrats David,ÃÂ I too am
Congrats David,ÃÂ I too am jealous. I will have the opportunity to go to the Spring Tournament in a little over a week from now and can't wait to get some lessons from some of the Surge's best. Get that video in and again Congrats.
T Medley, I hear a country
T Medley, I hear a country song in there somewhere..."All my strings are worn out and strung too loose..."
I have been watching the
I have been watching the daily Surge lessons for about 6 months, but have been unemployed and not out on the course. ÃÂ I also have a few of the course management packages and the short game instruction that I bought for myself for Christmas. I have taken the swing thoughts to the range about twice, and had decent success once I stopped swaying on the up back swing. This will be fun. I hit my wedges pretty well but am very inconsistent with my hybrids and driver. ÃÂ I am tall and lean ÃÂ (6'2' 180 lbs) and I have had back issues and flexibility issues, but I don't seem to have them with this swing, although I have not tested on the golf course per se. ÃÂ I will try to get the videos done within the next ten days, maybe this weekend. I am thinking maybe I should hit my 4 rescue club or driver, maybe 5 iron, or driver. ÃÂ Decisions, decisions...Any suggestions? Thanks everyone, this is very fun...
All it took to take all
All it took to take all backward hip sway out of my swing was the extra flare of the front foot. Seems I find more things every day that were "accidentally" fixed by more flare of the front foot.
Good thoughts Robert. ÃÂ I
Good thoughts Robert. ÃÂ I have really been intrigued by what Surge says and it has the ring of truth to me. As I mentioned, I have been following really 9 months or so (not 6 like I mentioned) and have been out at the range a few times last fall. I think I may hit my utility 4 hybrid to show Don, unless there is a recommended club (like a 5 iron) because I really need a consistent 200 yard club from the fairway, and I have had really mixed success with my linger clubs. ÃÂ I am sure I need a fitting, too, although as I say to people, "I am not spending a lot on clubs until I have a swing I can repeat". ÃÂ I love to play, and the course is one of the few places I truly relax. I am (perhaps foolishly) confident I could get to be a 10-15 handicapper with some time with the swing, and had reached out to Dave Seeman for lesson prices hoping to fit them in this year once I am working again. This should be fun. ÃÂ I love the online idea and that Surge and the team are utilizing that for everyone at reasonable prices.ÃÂ

As I have said before you
As I have said before you wouldn't want to try to learn to drive nails with a sledge hammer intending on getting a framing hammer once (or if) you ever got good at it. Assuming you ever did get much better the technique would be so messed up that you would have to learn the proper technique all over again with the proper tool.
If you are waiting to get better fitting clubs because of your swing that's the wrong reason.
If (like me) you don't have the extra money and have to make due with what you've got that's another story but expect slow and limited progress and expect to develop bad habits to compensate for the clubs and expect to never be as good as you could have been with proper fitting clubs.
Been there, done that with all of the above, and still fighting the wrong tools. Especially one of them.
Who knows, I might have even been a golfer by now with the right clubs. ;-)
After being on the range
After being on the range today I checked into the My Account portion on the Surge site and realized I had bought quite a lot of the videos over nine months, and have only looked at the Putting with Kenny Knox. ÃÂ I had previously bought PPGS Golf Swing, Driver Video, 14 Drills, 2 Situational shots and Kenny Knox...LOL...well, I guess it's time to watch them. Started with the Golf Swing and ÃÂ just had the 5 Secrets imparted by Don. ÃÂ Very good, and this week I will take those to the range to get ready for my video. ÃÂ Looking forward to it: I guess those were all Christmas and birthday presents to myself...lol...I suppose I am a serial buyer...I can't wait to get out on the course this year and start working with these...just some of the 5 Secrets helped me realize some things I wasn't doing on the range today. ÃÂ I am fairly athletic and can make up for bad habits for a while, then fall apart. ÃÂ This whole explication of the golf swing still makes the most sense ÃÂ to me all of any that I have heard or read about. ÃÂ

Thanks Steve, good advice
Thanks Steve, good advice based on experience. ÃÂ Let's see where I end up when I get re-employed and then perhaps a set of clubs would be the thing to do. I play for the love of it, but Army golf is no fun (left, right, left..). ÃÂ I have a good feel on the greens and short game, so that consistent swing would make a big difference tee to green. Dave G
Congratulations, David.ÃÂ
Congratulations, David.ÃÂ
Definitely get your video in to them. It will help. I think I'm pretty good at looking at and diagnosing my own swing, but Dave Seeman pointed out stuff that hadn't even occurred to me as the source of problems I was experiencing. Professional eyes on your swing will always help.

I know the feelings.
On Army golf and re-employment. Good luck with both.
Very cool Robert. Of course
Very cool Robert. Of course if you're willing we'd love to hear what suggestions you recieved. I know your swing is very PPGS and a good representation of the Surge swing.
As Steve says, and borrowing
As Steve says, and borrowing Doc Griffin's metaphor, you'll never learn to consistently hit the target if you're shooting with crooked arrows. There are some things you can do without getting a fully fitted set to minimize how "off" your current clubs are, though.ÃÂ
First, try to find out just how far off they are. Start with a marker and a bucket of balls and put a vertical line on each ball before you hit it. Then note where the mark is on the face of the club and its orientation (best to use a very low tee when doing this with irons to be sure you're getting a consistent setup and that the line is vertical on the tee). Inconsistent location of the strikes tells you one thing that the MOI is off, and/or the shaft is misaligned in the club, and/or the clubs are the wrong length for you. The orientation of the line on the face of the club tells you about the lie angle. If it's not perpendicular to the grooves on the club, then your lie angle is off.
You can try choking down on the club to deal with the length issues (unless you're really tall with short arms or your clubs are particularly old, it's unlikely they're too short for you). You can use lead tape on the clubs to adjust MOI issues (search for Surge's "Magic Dust in Golf" blog from a couple years ago for some information about using lead tape--but in general it's easy stuff to play with as long as you're sure to wash your hands regularly to minimize absorption). And you can see a fitter or even a reasonable technician at a club or golf store to get the lies adjusted.ÃÂ
