Club Fitting For Length

Wed, 12/26/2012 - 10:00 -- Don Trahan

Hello Surgites! I hope that you all are having a wonderful holiday break with your friends and family this year. I know a lot of you are currently in the path of a winter blizzard, so please stay inside and be safe!

Today I'm going to share a video from Frank Stranick, one of our certified PPGS club fitters. Frank's going to discuss how to go about purchasing clubs or making changes to the clubs you've already got. In particular, Frank will talk about the importance of having the proper length of clubs when using the Peak Performance Golf Swing. The information that Frank provides is a testament to the hard work that our fitters do. Don't hurt your game by playing with unfit clubs because golf's already hard enough!

Remember that we've got certified club fitters all across the country so if you've got any questions, you can contact your local club fitter here.

Coach

Hope you get a great night of rest. I am watching the new video now, going to be a late night. Life is good.

Kind of figured you might be cut from the same piece of cloth. I am the same way. We do things, not because we have to or because we are supposed to, but simply because it is the right thing to do. Every neighborhood needs a few people the folks know they can call at 2:30 AM and help is on the way. I think the Surge Nation is full of folks like that.

If you can send me the link to the rss thing, that would be great, unless it is the same thing Steve is talking about in his post. If it is the same thing, I will just use the link he sent.

I can hardly wait to see what we got coming out. Is it the new super duper Alignment video Surge was talking about the other day and said it would be out around Christmas?

Glad I ain't the only fool still up watching that video. Did you get a chance to watch it all yet? I said I was going to bed, but have not made it yet, still watching parts of the video for the 2nd time. Well put together production.

The Surge's crew rocks,

Before my old computer had a cook out and fried the motherboard, I had my system set up pretty well. I got a really great kit and built my own computer this time. It does it all, or pretty close to it. It has 8gb ram, 1tb hard drive, 6 processors, and I think it will cook a roast. Sorry, had to throw that in there.

Here is my question for you tech folks. In my old system you guys had walked me through how to set up a feed (rss maybe) where I could see almost real time comments on any of the daily blogs in the same place. No matter what daily they were posted to, you could see them all come up on one page. I could reply to them right from the feed without having to keep checking each daily to see if a new comment had posted there.

Can someone help me get that set up again, or is there something better out there now that I should be using?

You are probably talking about the Disqus Dashboard page where you could reply to comments and see replies to you.

Since they don't use Disqus anymore we don't have that.

We do have a feed page where you can see the comments and click on them to take you to the comment on the blog.

It sort of depends which operating system you are using as to which feed link you may need. I monitor mainly in Internet Explorer because it seems to update the fastest, and FireFox because that one seems to link back the quickest for making replies. At any rate, hopefully these links will work for you.

Internet Explorer

FireFox

Google Chrome

Good Luck. You may have to add or click on add Google reader and follow instructions for first time use.

I probably need to tweak the RSS feed some. All sources should update at the same time. What I should do is "burn" the feed through feedburner and give you a single source for the data.

Brady

Yes, exactly what you said. What ever that was. Burn is a hurtful word. That usually means some poor unsuspecting food source has been cooked to the point that even I won't eat it.

I would guess that was not the way you were using it. I got the link Steve sent me set up and it appears to be working. If there is something else you think would be better, just let me know.

By the way, got the new alignment video playing right now. I have been waiting on that baby.

Thanks for all your hard work for us,
Dick

It is almost 2 am here in the heart land. I just finished watching all the segments of the new Ultimate Alignment Video. Now I have a choice to make. I am thinking about watching the whole thing again. I was going to start the video and listen to it on my Bluetooth headset, and just go to bed with it playing. I found that won't work. I left the man cave and went through the house. I got half way down the bedroom hall and started losing signal. Darn, I don't want to drag the computer into the kitchen so I will have the range. I could sleep on the couch, it will reach there fine. The down side to that is I will wake up with a stiff neck and be in trouble with momma. Sorry Surge, but even as great as this video is, it ain't worth either of those things. I will just have to get up early in the morning and start it all over again. It is too cold here right now to end up in the dog house. Heck, even the dog is sleeping in the man cave tonight instead of the dog house.

Great video Surge. I am going to bed to dream of proper alignment and TAT.

It is two days after Christmas, and I just got one of the best gifts ever.

Some days it is good to be me,
Dick

To be exact... 71 minutes 33 seconds
It's got a lot in it. All 71 minutes is devoted to alignment too, no fillers!

Well, I'm disappointed. Why you ask, because I ordered it last night before retiring and still haven't gotten it added to my products list. I just sent a support query, but only received the automated response. It said that it may take a few days until my number comes up, due to the holidays and being short handed. It looks like it's going to be a lot longer than that before golf comes to N.E. Ohio though, so no big rush. Finally got the 8 to 10" from Wen fully cleaned up today and they're calling for another 6 to 8 over this weekend. I've had enough already. This white stuff sucks the big one.

I saw your comment come up on the feed page, but could not find it on the blog. I did not realize at first you were on this daily. Anyway, found you now. Sorry you are having that much of a delay. I got the first one off the press, and it was in my account before I got off the checkout page.

We got another 1" of the white stuff today. I saw my old home town in Arkansas on the news yesterday. They got 14" and still more on the way. We were not set up for that kind of snow in Ar. They will be shut down for 2 weeks. 100k people without power.

We will get through it,
Dick

Knew there was more than one reason I like you. I have had my eye on adopting a 19 year old from the Ukraine. Now that the ruskies have stopped all the adoptions, I will have to change my plans.

Besides, I don't think Donna would have let me keep her anyway!

Heck ya. I buy every video Don makes. Just bought the Alignment video. Heard it was coming but didn't know it was here. Alright!!
Buy it or not? Borrowclough, you know it is our major cause of 90-95% of all swing faults right? Of course you should buy it!

Brady, While true that one word can bring up info not precise to our need at the moment I of course still love the search. It forces me too search through the proverbial hay stack to find the needle needed to sew a thought together. Most of the hay is good stuff too so when searching I often find lots of other great reminders. I have said before that while I can't remember yesterdays breakfast I will remember a thread of Dons thinking from 3-4 years ago that will apply to a current discussion. Sometimes I'll search the archives (library) for hours to find one jewel. Hmmnnn....... I am not sure if that was flattering to Surge or a reflection of an aging man with too much time on his hands??!
In any case by the time I have done the research I have re-inforced the lesson in a way that just getting a quick answer from my fellow bloggers can't supply. And that is why You'll often hear me remind newbys of the importance of using this invaluable tool.

Let's just call it a Senior moment episode. I just kept looking at the list of videos in the My Products List waiting for it to magically show up. Kind of like looking all over for your keys when they were in your other pocket all the time. Thanks for turning the lights on for me.

You know something.... I need to check that code that builds that page. It may not be showing it in "My Products". I'll go snooping now...

That's where I was stumbling. It is not listed with my other products under the My Products Tab, but is available under the Videos Tab. Just glad to realize I had it all along in the other pocket. It will give me something to do after supper tonight.

Mr. Stanick if a driver is cut down and using a lighter grip does this not in fact just trick the swingweight scale and not actually add weight to the head. I have always had problems understanding that. Just a lighter or heavier grip to me seems the same as having a larger or smaller hand or maybe wearing a watch. If I recall the swingweight scale is set at around 14" and it seems to me it would be better set at around 6". Switching the grip from a regular to a jumbo appeared to lower the swing weight of the club by three units, according to the swing-weight scale. But that reading is false due to the fact that the change in mass occurred within the 14-inch pivot point. The scale saw the entire weight of the grip to lie on the butt end of the pivot point.

Hi Don, just watched your video on club fitting and wanted your take on the fitting of Mizuno clubs. I have been using Mizuno JPX 800 pro clubs for approx 2 1/2 years and they were probably too advanced for me when I first starting using them and my handicap was around 25 to 30. Over the last 3 months have spent some time re dialing in the PPGS swing as i was swinging too hard and going well into the sacred burial ground. I have over this time progressed from a handicap of 20 to 10, I'm now seriously looking at getting the a complete set of Mizuno JPX 825's with a driver having the same length as the 3 wood. I believe they do a very good job of club fitting based on talking to the club pro when I was in Perth and as I have been back in Albany Western Australia, Australia, I would be going to the local pro. He is also very good at what he doe's. My question is, do you believe that Mizuno are the sort of company that would shaft me, as I have been told with their new shaft optimiser technology and the number of shaft types, head types and grip types a average fitting time is around 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours and it takes 2 weeks to build your clubs and then you go back to the club pro to recieve and try out before you take them away and pay for them. Thanks for your time in looking at and answering my question, I certainly appreciate all your lessons and have no doubt it is the major reason why my golf has improve along with realising you do not have to hit the bejesus out of the club.
