Don Trahan is not a computer geek. When I first met him he was a golf teacher extraordinaire, but finding the power switch for his computer was a daily challenge. Yet here was a guy who created a computer program that could diagnose your swing problem and give you a prescription to fix it. It was a project years in the making.
There was only one problem. It didn't work. Maybe a better description would be, 'it almost worked.' Don, of course, did not do the programming and the programmer was long gone.
Enter Henry Ryffel, inventor, scientist, mathematician, author and, upon his retirement some years earlier, programmer extraordinaire. Henry fixed 'Compu-Golf.' When a golfer answered eight questions about grip, stance, posture, alignment and ball flight patterns, the program could actually determine a swing problem and a solution. And Henry became a friend for life.
Written to run on the 'ancient' MS-DOS operating system in the (then) new age of Windows, the program still sold thousands of copies. It was based, of course, on the Peak Performance Golf Swing and the Surgism: Setup determines the motion.
We are in the process of taking 'Compu-Golf' to a whole new level. We'll keep you posted.
