Today, Doc Griffin continues his series on shaft myths. A lot of people think the flex notation on the club tells you exactly how stiff the shaft is. For example, all shafts carry a flex notation such as "S", "R", "X", etc. However, as Doc explains, these letters can be misleading and don't actually give you an accurate reading on the stiffness of a shaft.
In the video, Doc showcases two shafts that are from the same company and are both labeled the same. In theory, each shaft should measure out to have the same characterisitcs such as cycles per minute. Doc uses a frequency machine to determine cycles per minute, and although the two shafts were the same, their measurements were a full 12 cycles apart.
The important thing to remember is that just because a club or a shaft is labeled as one thing, it could actually be quite different. That is why it's always better to have your clubs custom fit and built by certified fitters. They take the time to measure each one of your clubs in order to make them uniform throughout the bag. This is a service you just cannot duplicate from buying off the rack clubs.
Keep it vertical and remember that better golf is just a fit away,
