Doc Griffin joins the blog today for another episode of The Doctor's House Call.
For many of you who live in northern climes, you may have already put your clubs in the closet and, if you had a somewhat frustrating season this year, that's a good place to keep them this winter, according to Doc!
You see, Doc knows that the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results. So if your game didn't progress much this year after a lot of practice and play, then there's a better than even chance that the problem is not YOU but it's your equipment. Take the time this off-season to find a qualified fitter who can measure your swing from a number of different perspectives and determine if your current clubs match it. This type of analysis is relatively inexpensive and you'll come away with one of three possible outcomes:
1. Your clubs are well-matched to your swing (so the problem is YOU, after all!)
2. Your clubs are a close-enough match and some/all just need adjusting (new shafts, new grips, lie angle, shaft length, etc.)
3. Your clubs are hopelessly mismatched for your swing and skill level and cannot be adjusted
Think of how invaluable this knowledge will be, particularly when you consider how much time, money and energy we put into playing this game every year. As Doc and I have said many times on this blog, a good set of clubs from a custom club fitter is usually not much more expensive than a good set of off-the-shelf clubs from your local golf retailer. The difference is that the retailer will try to fit you to the clubs with the closest profile to your swing he has in stock while the custom club builder will make each club to your exact requirements.
So if you haven't had your clubs checked recently, do yourself a favor and get them evaluated so that your game can become all that it can be.
Keep it vertical!
