Don't Let Your Finish Finish You Off

When amateurs really want to step on the gas off the tee and crush it, most of them give it 100%. More often than not, the player loses control, destroys his balance, and the ball goes off target.

No accomplished player, amateur or professional, lets go at 100%. I was watching some old footage of Jack Nicklaus on The Golf Chanel and when he ripped into it, his recoil saved him. He was in control and pulled his club in front of him at the finish of his forward upswing.

DJ says the hardest he ever goes at it is 95%. Same goes for Tiger and many other long hitters. No matter how much they are invested in the game, they keep control of their finish. That'€™s a lesson hard learned when you'€™re faced with a seemingly impossible carry over water.

Remember, for every action (the forward upswing) there is a reaction (recoil and relax). If you don'€™t pull the club back in front of you, look out back pain. Go for a smooth finish and you'€™ll be in the fairway and on the green more often than not.

The Surge!
