You know I'm big on a pre-shot routine. Do your practice swing. Feel the swing, then swing the feel.
However, at the Phoenix Open, I was taken aback by the pre-shot routine of some of the players. Some took minutes, not seconds, to approach the ball. I am totally into focus, but some of these guys... well, maybe it was the cold.
I definitely want you to develop a pre-shot routine. But you don't have to overdo it. Feel the swing, swing the feel. When when you know you have it ' the feel ' then walk up, get in your athletically-ready position, and hit it!
Sports psychologists say that in 10 seconds your body (and your mind) will forget the 'feel' of the swing you want. Mechanics has its place. Developing the right routine is essential. But when you're playing, don't hesitate. Hit the ball!
