I have a question here from Golden Max, an Inner Circle member. He says, “Hi fellow golfers. My problem is I don't feel confident if my ball position is correct? Surge says to walk into position. I need a little more precise method. Any suggestions? Thanks for any thoughts on this.”
O.K., Golden Max, you put a problem out here but you're kind of vague in describing what's going on, so I'm going to have to make some assumptions and try to give you an answer.
First off, you're saying that your ball position is correct, but you're not really certain because you don't feel confident and you want more help on how to walk into the ball.
Right off the bat, if you're an Inner Circle member, you have access to the swing manual. In there I have a setup routine, walking into the ball, that I call making the H. It's tough to describe talking about it here, so go check out “Making the H.”
What could also be happening here is that you could have a correct ball position but have incorrect setup position. Even though you are lining up with the ball centered in your stance, say for a seven iron to a wedge, which is where it's supposed to be, you might be either having your upper body too far forward or maybe too far behind the ball. Or alignment could still be wrong.
If you're lined up aiming the wrong way, that could effectively change the position of the ball relative to the swing. Swinging down the wrong line based on bad alignment can move the ball move the ball forward if you were aiming to the left, if you're as right handed golfer. If you're aiming too far to the right, which would cause you to swing and hit balls to the right or blocks, for a right hander, you'd be hitting it too soon and the ball would be back in your stance.
Ball position can be wrong based on the setup with the upper body too forward or too back, or alignment.
Check those two things in your setup. Also, go to the swing manual and look at the concept of making the H. There are articles written about that too. It's also available in some of the swing videos in the Inner Circle.
