It's true, I've been after DJ to try to stand a little taller. However, since he's over 6'3' it's hard to do that with the standard 35' putter. So last week, he had a 38' and a 39' putter made for him.
Adding 3 to 4 inches definitely makes a big difference in his posture. He's more upright now and we both like that.
One issue that DJ brings up in this video is the importance of the lie of the putter. It's got to be as flat on the ground as possible. We had to take his new one to the trainer three times to get it right. The right lie means much greater accuracy.
He also uses a heavier putter. We like that because you take less of a stroke, which means less margin for error.
But maybe the most important question you have to ask about a putter is, 'Can you line it up well?' There are a lot of difference reasons people choose a putter. But lining it up well is the name of the game.
