Today's daily is an answer to a recent question from Craig63 who asked for help on how to avoid chunking a chip shot, particularly when it counts most during a tournament. Surge Swing expert Steve Smith once again provided some great advice from his own personal experience. Steve finds that he can avoid these chunked shots by slowing down his swing tempo and by maintaining his proper posture. Both of these points are excellent.
I also think there are some other things at play here so Craig63 ought to check these as well. To start with, what's the #1 Surgism? That's right, it's "The setup determines the motion". Since 90-95% of all swing errors can be traced back to poor setup, this is a natural place to start. As you know, when hitting a chip shot, we want to shift our weight and lower body slightly forward. Many people also move their hands forward and this causes them to hit well behind the ball. Remember, your hands will always bottom out when the thumb of your lead hand is directly below your sternum so make sure that you begin your swing with the hands correctly lined up. Another thing I often see when students have a problem in this area is that they fail to keep their lower body quiet up to and through impact.
Keep your lower body dead still and your hands properly lined up and you will be on your way to becoming a short game wizard.
Keep it vertical,
The Surge
