Right Swing Plus Wrong Clubs Equals Trouble

Wed, 05/18/2011 - 19:05 -- Don Trahan

The Surge reviews the second day of the golf school at Golden Bear Golf Center in Carrollton, Texas, just outside of Dallas. He'€™s talking with Certified Club Fitter, Russ Ryden, who helped establish the Swing Surgeon certification program with director Lynn Griffin. Russ made quite a startling revelation about what can happen when you improve your swing and the clubs are wrong.

In their conversation, both Russ and Don agree that if your clubs are wrong -- weight, loft, lie, length '€“ when you improve your swing you'€™re likely to get worse results! The Surge and Russ go into some detail about adjusting your setup to your clubs '€“ and how wrong that is, especially if the lie angle is wrong. It can affect everything from alignment to your dynamic balance.

And alignment was, as usual, a problem to be solved for every student. So far, the number of students in all of the Swing Surgeon schools that had proper alignment remains the same: 0%

Find out how important it is to your game to have the right tools.

Surge, thanks for yet another insightful video dealing with properly fitted clubs. It really drives home the need to have clubs that totally fit one's game.It really drives home the point that both you & Doc make in reply to all those that say "why(should I) get fit before I learn the swing."

For some reason Discus is acting up for me today. On the Dashboard site where it usually shows "replies to you" and "you only" it only shows that I have "no activity".
I also didn't get usual E-Mail notification of any replies today.

For me it would be an easy choice, but only because I already have a SwingRite. ;-)

Yes, if you are not in the path, mother nature is awesome to watch.  When you see videos of a tidal wave taken from up on the side of a hill it is cool.  At beach level however, it probably does not look all that cool.

I loved sleeping in an old house with a tin roof when it was raining when I was a kid.  Who needs one of those expensive sound machines when you have nature?  It wasn't so great when I had to trudge out to the outhouse in the rain.

Thanks Doc Griffin.  It's a very screwed-up system - makes it hard for the everyday, average  golfer to make any sense out of it.  All the more reason to get fit!  By the way, the clubs you built me are just AWESOME!  I am hitting them super-straight and very confidently.  The hybrids are much easier to hit than regular irons.  You build a nice stick, Doc!!!  R2
