Hybrids Are Good!

First of all, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family from mine. And thank you to the ever growing PPGS family. I wouldn't be here without you. This was one heck of a year. I am still moved each day by the support you gave me this spring during my heart surgery. You're all just simply fantastic.

Enough of that. Let's talk golf.

Are “hybrids” good? You bet they are. Basically, they are replacing the long irons as the club of choice in a set. They are easier to hit than long irons and, for most, more accurate. They are gaining wide acceptance on the various tours. And everyday golfers love them, no question.

Because the profile of the head is smaller and the shaft shorter (yes, the shaft is shorter!) than a fairway wood, you can swing it faster.

Hybrids have definitely changed the game of golf — for the better. Back in the 1960s, when the cavity backed irons started to appear there was a fundamental change in irons. Based on the mistaken notion that they could increase the size of the “sweet spot” (not possible), they also started decreasing the loft of the clubs. Today the loft of a 5 iron is more like the loft of a 3 iron 50 years ago.

Hybrids have made playing golf more enjoyable. And I'm all for that.

The Surge!
