Driver Improvement Made Simple

Michael has no problem getting off the tee or turf with his 3-wood. But he'€™s having problems with his driver. On the blog he asks if it would help to shorten his driver.

Absolutely! By today'€™s standards, drivers are 45 to 46 inches long. The standard 3-wood is about 43 inches long. So today€'s drivers can be as much as 2 to 3 inches longer than the other woods in your bag.

The difference between my driver and 3-wood is about an inch! I love my 3-wood. Everything about it is perfect, from the kick point to the length. But why do I prefer only an inch difference between my driver and 3-wood?

First, the shorter shaft on the driver gives me more control of the club. Second, I can swing the driver faster. What does that mean? More clubhead speed and clubhead speed equals distance.

So, Michael. Choke up on your driver and see if that helps. If it does you know the problem is length. Then you have a choice. Play choked up with your driver or have a certified club fitter cut off the inch or so you'€™re choking up. It'€'s a simple fix.
