Surge's Book Reviews

Thu, 12/12/2013 - 12:00 -- Don Trahan

Today, I'm going to review two superb golf books that I recommend everyone should read. What's really cool about the two authors is that they're both dedicated Surgites! I haven't had a chance to tee it up with them yet, but I've had the pleasure of meeting both writers, and their passion comes across in person as much as it does in their writing.

The two books I'll be reviewing today are:

1. Ike, Golf, and Augusta
by David Sowell
Order on Amazon.com here

2. Golf's Three Noble Truths: The Fine Art of Playing Awake
by James Ragonnet
Order on Amazon.com here

I highly recommend you go and pick up copies of your own because these really are two of the best golf publications I've ever had the pleasure of reading. They are a perfect gift for any golf fan.

Keep it vertical and enjoy!

I am wondering whether "recoil and relax" is necessary to the Peak Performance Golf Swing. I know that great golfers like Moe Norman (who had his own unique swing which is fairly close to the peak performance swing in some respects) did recoil and relax at the finish. But personally I feel better balanced if I finish with my hands up near my ear, and hold that position. It seem to keep me under better control. But does that mean I am not accelerating enough into the finish, because if I did accelerate adequately I would naturally want to end the swing with the recoil and relax move? Please advise. Maynard Toll.

Jon, while I still am having golf's up and downs of success and failure. ie., yesterday's 8 was followed by a birdie 3. (great drive, wedge to 5 feet and nice roll), I have to say that the out to in loop that is gained thru a proper bump is now starting to become more natural for me. It is becoming more subtle and effortless at times. 77 is awesome pal, good work.
My 83(44/39) could have been in the 77 range had a few more putts fallen in rather than lip out! Nice playing Jon. Keep it up:)

"Three Nobel Truths" one of the books Surge mentioned seems to be heartfelt and deep. I read the opening sample on Amazon and wow, very cool stuff. I also to a brief gander at the "Ike' book and then ordered both.
Thanks Surge for the recommendations. Nobel truths in particular looke like it will help set my priorities in place and put life in perspective. It all goes by so quickly so learning to smell the birdies and endure the bogies of life along the way is a good policy. Thanks for sharing these jewels with us. i look forward to reading both. BTW "Nobel Truths" reminds me of "Golf in the Kingdom"- a must read classic.
