Third Lesson - Posture

Remember what a “Surgism” was from yesterday?  Well, here’s another one and the major premise of my swing philosophy: “Setup determines the motion.”  And a major part of your setup is posture.

What is the Major Mistake you’ve been taught about setup?  “Relax, get comfortable, and pretend you’re sitting on a barstool.”

Right.  Off the tee, you’re about to explode through the ball with the clubhead traveling at 60, 70, 80, 90 MPH or more at impact and you’re sitting on a barstool?

Does that make any sense?

When you adopt the correct posture, you swing with more ease, hit the ball farther and with greater accuracy.  You get in sync with a more natural rhythm that will keep you playing for years to come without the aches, pains, and injuries that most golfers eventually (maybe right now) suffer from.

Here’s the image I want you to use.  Think of a tennis player ready to receive a serve.  Think of a shortstop as the ball is pitched or a quarterback under center ready to take a snap.  Think of a soccer goalie ready to defend their goal.

All of them are in an “athletically ready” position to receive that tennis ball, baseball, football, or soccer ball.  Just like you, ready to smash that golf ball straight down the fairway.

In this lesson we’ll focus on your shoulders and knees.  Once you get this lesson down, it will show on your scorecard immediately.

One point: you’re probably going to get odd looks from your foursome.  You’re going to get all kinds of advice (bad advice).  Don’t listen.  Just look at your score card.

That’s it.  Shoulders and knees and pain free golf.

Tomorrow I’ll reveal the next Major Mistake: your stance.  And you’re not going to believe it!

In the meantime, if you want more information on how my students, including my son, PGA Tour pro DJ Trahan, maintain a longer, straighter and more consistent swing, check out my complete series of instructional videos right here at www.SwingSurgeon.com.  These videos are available immediately via digital streaming.  You’ll also be able to have both the digitally streamed video and a hard copy set of DVDs for a low, additional charge.

You can try everything out with this guarantee: if your game does not improve in 90 days, I’ll give you your money back, no questions asked.

I believe in the Surge Swing.  So do thousands of my students.  Click here to check out our blog and jump right into our daily conversation and more tips.  It’s free!
